The Journey of the Yam
Volta Lake, Ghana, November 2018
The Yapei Queen takes the journey from Akosombo to Yeji every two weeks. It covers some 500km over the course of three days, with stops in Kete Krachi and some smaller villages, to transport goods, mainly yam, from the northern parts of the Volta Lake to the south. The pace on the ferry is one of its own, spanning from hard work to serenity, allowing especially passengers who join the trip for rather touristic reasons to enjoy the stunning views of the Volta Lake while observing the yam trading business.
